New Bathtub Safety Guide Created for Busy Parents
North Miami Beach, Florida: A new bathtub safety guide titled "Bathtub Zone" promises to be a hit with busy parents and caregivers because of its easy- to-use, flip-chart-type directions and adorable illustrations. Hangs on the door or wall so it's easy to find when
you need it. It covers topics like bathtub CPR, hot water burns, broken bones, nosebleeds, head injury and basic bathtub safety tips. It’s laminated.
Writer, Rochel Albert, knows that most parents don't know the first thing about safety, especially when it come to CPR. "So many children die or are seriously injured every year as their parents passively sit by waiting for the paramedics to arrive. I wanted to design a book that was easy to find and easy to use. It's kind of like having a fire extinguisher in the bathroom."
Parents assume that nannies know what to do in an emergency, but the truth is that even if a nanny raised her own children, the chances of her actually knowing what to do in an emergency is slim. Most overseas nannies didn't even have bathtubs where they came from and don't appreciate how easily a drowning can take place in bathtubs. So parents often make a massive assumption about their nanny's safety abilities.
A survey recently taken showed that over 90 percent of new moms and dads didn't know what to do if their child couldn't breathe because of sucking up too much water. And 95 percent of nannies didn't know what to do besides the obvious - call 9-1-1.
It was no easy task to create though, taking over a year to complete. She researched every book and article she could find on the topic and tried to condense it to the simplest form that a layperson with no previous knowledge about safety could understand within seconds. Retails for $14.99
Included with the guide is her invention ShowermarksŪ, which she created for her daughter. They are waterproof red (for hot) and blue (for cold) arrow stickers that are applied to shower knobs when the temperature is just right to remind you and your kids where to turn the knobs to the next time you turn the shower on, and off arrows to indicate which way to turn the water off. Saves water and time and teaches your kids how to safely use the shower. A real hit with moms!
Rochel is busy finishing up her next guide for the kitchen to be hung on the refrigerator. She is a mother of four, author and inventor of kids' products and games. She lives with her family in North Miami Beach, Florida
